THE STORY
I was reading about Queen Charlotte once, the first Black queen of England, and there was a description of how she walked into a room, the weight of her crown, the feathers in her hair, the way every person in that room felt her before they saw her. I kept thinking about that image, a woman so sure of who she is that her headpiece becomes a declaration. Not jewelry. Not an accessory. A statement of reign. That woman, that feeling of walking into a room and owning it without saying a word, became the Adela.
THE CRAFTSMANSHIP
I build each Adela on a copper base, layering black crochet lace by hand into floral and leaf motifs that sprawl across the crown like something that grew there. Crystal stones are set into the lace for subtle brilliance, and real black and white ostrich feathers rise dramatically from the top, wild and deliberate at the same time. Delicate black chains hang from the front edge, each one finished with a black crystal drop that grazes the forehead. A black elastic band at the back keeps it secure while the malleable base lets you shape it to fit perfectly.
THE STYLING ADVICE
The Adela belongs on a sleek updo, a tight bun, or a low chignon where the headpiece takes over completely. Wear it with an off-shoulder gown, a structured blazer, or even a simple black dress and let it be the entire look. This is not a piece you accessorize around, everything else goes quiet when the Adela is on. Dramatic eye makeup, bare shoulders, and confidence are the only things it needs beside it.
