Chasina Earrings

THE STORY
I was flipping through an old botanical illustration book I found at a flea market years ago. The kind with hand-drawn plates, slightly yellowed, each plant rendered in obsessive detail. Most of them were delicate, expected. But then there was one page that stopped me: a wild vine, completely untamed, drawn mid-movement as if the artist had caught it growing in real time. Branches crossing, looping back on themselves, small white buds appearing at the most unexpected points along the stem. There was nothing polished about it. It was alive in a way that neat things never are. I kept that page in my mind for a long time. Chasina is that vine.

THE CRAFTSMANSHIP
I shaped Chasina from gold-plated copper, bending and crossing the bars by hand until they formed that loose, unscripted loop at the top, the kind of shape that looks accidental and is anything but. Two long gold bars descend from the knot at uneven lengths, dotted along one side with tiny seed pearls placed at irregular intervals like buds that decided for themselves where to appear. At the base of the longest bar, a single white pearl drops on a small gold ring, round and luminous, the punctuation at the end of a very long sentence. The stud closure anchors the whole sculptural cascade close to the ear so the movement below it feels even more dramatic by contrast.

THE STYLING ADVICE
Chasina was made for the woman who is not afraid to be the most interesting thing in the room. Wear them with your hair completely up, a clean chignon or tight bun, so every element of the earring is visible from the knot all the way down to that final hanging pearl. They sit beautifully against a simple column dress or a tailored suit in ivory or deep green, anything that gives the gold somewhere to breathe. These are not background jewelry.
