Finley Ring

THE STORY
I was watching a film once where a character wore all black, head to toe, completely closed off to the world. But in one scene the light hit her a certain way and you caught something underneath, a flash of red at her collar, barely visible, almost accidental. The director never mentioned it. No one in the film mentioned it. But I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. That red wasn't decoration. It was confession. It was the thing she wasn't saying out loud, the heat she was carrying quietly under all that controlled darkness. I wanted to make a ring that works exactly like that scene. Finley is everything you're not showing. Until the light catches you.

THE CRAFTSMANSHIP
Finley is built from two layers of genuine box leather: a foundation of red box leather underneath, wrapped and enclosed in black box leather on top. Into the black surface I punched a cluster of irregular cut-out holes at the center, each one a deliberate wound in the darkness that lets the red bleed through from beneath. The dome shape is full and sculptural, sitting high on the finger like a statement that doesn't ask for permission. The adjustable band at the back means it fits with ease. Nothing about Finley is accidental. Every cut was placed exactly where it needed to be.

THE STYLING ADVICE
Finley belongs on a bare hand with short, clean nails, nothing competing with that dome. It hits hardest against a black outfit where the red cut-outs do all the talking, or against a stark white sleeve where the contrast becomes almost violent in the best way. Pair it with a dark lip, keep the rest of the hand empty, and let Finley be the only thing anyone looks at. This is a ring for the woman who keeps her fire private until she decides it isn't.
